DESCRIPTIONNormal scheduling will resume shortly engages with the arteries which make our cities run, both visible and invisible. Taking Manila and Melbourne as its departure points this exhibition ruminates on how we think, use and engage with networks and arterials, asking us to consider how we might understand these through poetic frameworks. Poklong Anading (Manila) and Neil Fettling (Melbourne) engage with the histories and the flotsam and jetsam that patinas the road and the city exploring through individual and collaborative works arterials as sites of congestion, engagement and performance and a palimpsest of private and public moments. Their works consider the urbanisation of both cities and the humanity within their congestion, ruminating on notions of time, movement and navigation while reflecting on these sites as spaces punctuated by incident and accident, repetition and surprise and control and uncontrol.
The exhibition includes works engaging with the humanity of the city, waterways, and the labyrinth of networks which funnel their way around the city, both seen and unseen, man-made and constructed. Installed across multiple spaces on this floor of the Cultural Centre of the Philippines – the gallery, the atriums and around the escalators, the works are in constant dialogue, remaining open-ended and resolute in their ideas creating unfolding and connected discussions.
