WOMEN’S MONTH CELEBRATION @ CCP

THE Cultural Center of the Philippines invites everyone to join the three-day celebration of Women’s Month this March 22 to 24 held in different venues inside the CCP Main Building, Roxas Boulevard, Pasay City from 9:00 AM to 7:00 PM.
On March 22, CCP Arthouse Cinema will be screening two films. At 2:00 PM, the Cinemalaya 2017 finalist “Sa Gabing Nanahimik ang mga Kuliglig” directed by Iar Arondaing would be shown. On the night of Good Friday, Father Romi finds himself in a predicament after Magda confesses to have committed murder following her discovery of her friend Dolores’ adulterous relationship with her husband Victor. The church is empty for the lone altar boy Nonoy who unintentionally overhears Magda’s hysterical admission from inside the confessional. Father Romi and Nonoy discuss the issue at hand. Now both of them carry the weight of knowing Magda’s sins and must strive to find a way to deliver justice and act in keeping with the unbreakable vow of the Seal of the Confessional.
Shortly after at 5:00 PM, would be “Kusina” (The Kitchen) starring Judy Ann Santos-Agoncillo. It is the silent witness to the life and love of Juanita. It is her sanctuary, the place where she creates dishes for her family, her friends, even enemies and strangers. Through cooking, she gets to know the people around her, and in return, reveal herself to them. This Cinemalaya 2016 finalist is directed by Cenon Obispo Palomares and David Corpuz.
Starting the events on March 23 would be the Play Readathon at the MKP Hall 4th Floor, 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM. This would be a dramatic reading of four works by women playwrights: “Pambansang Litanya ng mga Inang Wala sa Bayan” by Christine Bellen, “Sulog nin Pagkamoot” by Ellyn Nidea, “Tongdo” by Lynette Carantes, and “Sa Takilid nga Data (On Tilted Earth)” by Tanya Lopez. This is in partnership with Women’s Playwrights, International headed by Malou Jacob.
Side by side with the Play Readathon would be a Mini-Book Fair of women authors. In partnership with National Book Development Board, this would showcase the pieces and works of women. This would be in the 4th Floor Hallway from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
On March 24, CCP Intertextual Division and Gantala Press would be having a Gandang-Ganda sa Sariling Gawa: Book, Zine, and Art Fair. The sellers would be the following: Batis AWARE x The Youth & Beauty Brigade, Berna Sastrillo x Katrina Tankeh x Jules Ruizol, Cat Gablin, Christine Silva, Cubaohaus, Czyka & Sophie, Tumaliuan, Gantala Press x Dead Balagtas, Haliya Publishing, High Chair, Hubon Manunulat:, West Visayan Writers, Magpies Press, Makô x Zeempleng Tao, Nagmamahal, Maria Clara, Philippine High School for the Arts, Power in Her Story, Project October, RadikalChick, Rayji De, Guia Salcedo x Lian Sing, #RomanceClass, S A K A, So Ayun, Studio Soup Zine Library, Teaching Exhibitions Zine, The Cabinet, Tulaan sa Liwasan, /zeen/ not /zign. They would start selling from 8:00 AM to 7:00 PM at the Silangan Hall in the 4th Floor.
Another Play Readathon would also be held at MKP Hall from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM. This would also show a dramatic reading of three plays written by women playwrights: “Pulang Buwan” by Saturnina Rodil, “Hawla” by Venise Buenaflor, and “Tagu-Taguan” by Racine Geneda. Still in partnership with Women’s Playwrights, International headed by Malou Jacob.
From 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM, Frances Alvarez of Ang Ink (Ilustrador ng Kabataan) would have a Picture Book Making Workshop at the MKP Hall.
At 4:30 PM, the Peek-a-Book Exhibit Children’s Book Illustrations would be opened at the 4th Floor Museum Hallway. The works are made by 13 Women Artists: Kora Dandan Albano and Liza Flores, who curated this exhibit, Pergy Acuña, Frances Alvarez, Jamie Bauza, Yas Doctor, Iori Espiritu, Abi Goy, Beth Parrocha, Bru Sim-Nada, Angela Taguiang, Ara Villena, and Bernadette Solina-Wolf. The exhibit would run until May 6, 2018.
A Mini-Arts Market would also be open at the 4th Floor Hallway from 8:00 AM to 7:00 PM. These would showcase the works of the artists from the Peek-a-Book Exhibit.
This is part of the Gender and Development (GAD) Activities of CCP through its GAD Technical Working Group. All the events are free and open to the public. A certificate of participation would be given to those who would attend the Picture Book Making Workshop and the Readathon.
