SUNDAY, August 14 at the 12th Cinemalaya Film Festival offers two additional screenings of the filmsMercury is Mine by Jason Paul Laxamana (CCP Little Theater) and Tuos by Roderick Cabrido (CCP Tanghalang Huseng Batute), both at 3:30pm. The said two movies are entries in the festival’s Full Length Feature category.
Mercury is Mine tells the story about a cook, played by popular Filipino comedienne Pokwang, who is about to close down her failing eatery when a young white American man, played by Bret Jackson, approaches her and begs for work in exchange for shelter.
Tuos features Filipina superstar Nora Aunor as a woman chosen to keep an age-old tradition alive and who must now choose between her granddaughter’s life and a belief that shackled her in solitary confinement. Young actress Barbie Forteza portrays the granddaughter in the film.
Winners of the 2016 Cinemalaya Independent Film Festival will be announced at the Cinemalaya Awards Night at 7pm at the CCP Tanghalang Nicanor Abelardo (Main Theater).
Cinemalaya is a project of the Cinemalaya Foundation, the Cultural Center of the Philippines in partnership with Ayala Malls Cinemas. Established in 2005, Cinemalaya is an all-digital film festival and competition that aims to discover, encourage and honor cinematic works of Filipino filmmakers.
In addition to the main Festival venue at the CCP, Cinemalaya is being held in Ayala Theaters in Greenbelt 3 and Glorietta, Makati, Fairview Terraces, TriNoma, and UP Town Center, Quezon City, Solenad, Nuvali in Sta. Rosa, Laguna and Ayala Center Cebu until August 14.
