CCP President Arsenio J. Lizaso

Bacolod City Mayor Evelio R. Leonardia

The Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra (PPO), the premiere national orchestra and resident company of the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP), will be playing at the SMX Convention Center Bacolod and the Bacolod City Hall on January 31 and February 1 respectively. The two concerts are expected to draw in a total crowd count of close to 10,000. The event is in partnership with the Bacolod Government through the office of Mayor Evelio R. Leonardia.

The February 1 open-air PPO performance at the grounds of the Bacolod City Government Center (BCGC) opens the Bacolaodiat Festival, the annual Chinese New Year celebration of Bacolod City. The five-day festival will run from February 1 until February 5, the actual date of the Chinese New Year.

The Bacolod concerts form part of the outreach program under the CCP Office of the President (OP), which started in 2018.

“We begin our outreach program for 2019 by going to the City of Smiles, Bacolod City. The smiles, in this case, also represent our happiness in bringing world-class orchestral music closer to the everyday man, the man on the street, the people from all walks of life. This is the primary objective of the tours,” Arsenio J. Lizaso, CCP president said.

The PPO tours are in line with the vision, mission, and objectives of the Center.   “Art matters in the life of every Filipino” is the CCP vision.   It also fulfills the organization’s mission by nurturing the broadest publics---with an estimated 10,000 audience count for the Bacolod leg---to participate in art appreciation.

The PPO tours address the two CCP objectives of artistic excellence and arts for transformation.  The  PPO tours  create and present excellent and engaging artistic experiences in the country and contribute to the development of  the next generation of audience members who would appreciate and support artistic and cultural work.

The PPO, which recently celebrated its 45th anniversary, is on its 36th concert season which will come to a close in April 2019. After the Bacolod leg of the outreach tour, the orchestra is set to perform at the University of the East (UE)-Manila campus in February, and the University of the Philippines-Philippine General Hospital (UP-PGH) in March in partnership with the Philippine Cancer Society (PCS).
