CONTINUING its mandate to promote music appreciation throughout the country, the Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra will hold outreach concerts in Antique province anew. PPO will perform at the Tario Lim Campus of University of Antique in the Capitol of Tibiao on November 30, 6pm and at the People’s Plaza in Capitolyo, San Jose on December 1, 2018 at 6pm. The concerts are free to the public. PPO likewise held concerts in Davao City in November this year prior to the Antique stint.
For its Antique concerts, the PPO will perform familiar classic music such as all-time favorite Filipino pieces and well-known pop songs including Usahay and Beyonce Medley.
PPO music director & principal conductor Maestro Yoshikazu Fukumura and Maestro Herminigildo Ranera will conduct the Orchestra in both November 30 and December 1 concerts.
CCP president Arsenio “Nick” Lizaso is hopeful to connect and unite the Filipino through music, enabling the PPO outreach concerts to bring music and world-class performances to those who cannot travel to the CCP, or to those who may not otherwise have access. “This is our way of bringing CCP closer to Filipino people, especially to those living in the regions,” he says.
Back in 2016, Maestro Fukumura joined the PPO in their outreach concerts in Victoria and Silay, Negros Occidental. He has worked with different renowned orchestras including the Tokyo City Ballet Company, Kyoto Symphony Orchestra, Nagoya Philharmonic Orchestra, Sendai Philharmonic Orchestra, the Japanese, Hong Kong Philharmonic, Singapore Symphony Orchestra, KBS Symphony Orchestra, Seoul Philharmonic, among others.
Established in 1973 as an accompaniment for the performing artists at the CCP Theater, the Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra has become the country’s leading orchestra and is widely regarded as one of the top musical ensembles in the Asia-Pacific region. It has performed with world’s renowned conductors including Mendi Rodan, Piero Gamba, Enrique Batis, Sebastian Bereau and Nicholas Koch, as well as performed with the best foreign and Filipino artists such as Van Cliburn, Renata Tebaldi, Judith Engel, Anthony Camden, David Benoit, Cecile Licad, Raul Sunico and Lea Salonga.
The PPO has toured Europe in 2001 and has participated in the Asia Orchestra Week in September 2002 held at the Tokyo Opera City Hall upon the invitation of the Association of Japanese Symphony Orchestras. It has performed at Bangkok’s National Theater in September 2004 upon the invitation of Her Royal Highness Princess Galyani Vandhana of Thailand. In June 2016, PPO made history when it became the first Filipino orchestra to perform at the world-renowned Carnegie Hall in New York City. Likewise, the PPO participated in the Asia Orchestra Week in Kuji and Tokyo, Japan on October 2-6, 2018 through the invitation of the Japanese government. It was the second time the PPO was invited to participate in the Asia Orchestra Week. The Orchestra first joined the international event in 2002. Recently, PPO held a successful 45th Anniversary Concert featuring Japanese violinist-conductor Ryu Goto at the historic Manila Cathedral in 2018.
The PPO Antique outreach concerts are spearheaded by CCP president Arsenio J. Lizaso in cooperation with the provincial government of Antique.
