THE Cultural Center of the Philippines in cooperation with the Music School of Ryan Cayabyab presents the Akapela Open International at the CCP Main Theater on October 20, 2018, the Finals Night of its competition at 7:00pm. Akapela Open International is a movement and competition for contemporary a cappella ensemble singing.   

The finalists are Astrafellas from Baguio, Calafellas from Pangasinan, ConChords from Quezon City, KNKTD from Manila, Mvibe from Quezon Province, PhiSix from Makati City, PSquare from Davao, Sayil from Bulacan, Syncofellas (Bulacan), and Vocalmyx from Cagayan de Oro. 

There will be a performance by Acapellago, a Filipino contemporary a cappella group originating from the province of Bulacan. Founded in November 2012, the group is composed of five young artists sharing the same passion for singing. The group won the 2015 A Cappella Championships International Category and the 2016 AKA A Cappella VIII Asia Pacific Championship League. 

The Music School of Ryan Cayabyab spearheaded a contemporary a cappella group competition – Akapela Open to further raise the standards of vocal performance in the country.  Launched in 2013, the competition has also become a movement as since its conception, the Akapela Open team has been doing the rounds of workshops in the various regions of the country.  Akapela Open’s objectives are to promote the love for contemporary a cappella and the appreciation for vocal harmony performance; to provide a venue for new arrangements of Philippine and international arrangements of Philippine and international contemporary vocal music; to provide growth experiences for singers and arrangers; and, to cultivate a community of contemporary a cappella singers.

Prizes at stake for the winning groups are Php250,000.00 (Grand Prize), Php150,000.00 (First Runner-Up), Php100,000.00 (Second Runner-Up) and Php 50,000.00 (Best Arrangement Award).

Ticket price is Php200 for Orchestra and Lower Box seats.
