HILOM is a dance film showcasing folkloric dances associated with rituals and dance traditions. Giving expression to the pulse/rhythm of the Filipinos, this dance production illustrates the relevance of dance to the lives of the people in a community, especially during times of difficulties and challenges. It highlights the affinity of Filipinos to connect to the spiritual world for prayer, supplications, thanksgiving and worship.
Directed by Stephen Ramos Biadoma, HILOM follows the story and concept by UST Salinggawi Dance Troupe, with music by Teresa Barrozo. This collection of dance performances features Abigail Calma (as Inang Bayan) from Ramon Obusan Folkloric Group; Kaloob Phil Music and Dance Ministry; Lyceum of the Philippines University of Batangas – Lahing Batangan Dance Troupe; Leyte Dance Theatre of Jess De Paz Foundation Inc.; University of Cebu Dance Company; Melengas Dance Ensemble; and Koronadal Hinugyaw Cultural Dance Troupe.
As the dance film gathers various folkloric dance groups from all over the country, it hopes to sustain the engagement of the folk dance community by exploring and developing new platforms for sharing dance creation, knowledge, and the messages of unity, hope, love, and resiliency.
HILOM will be presented on CNN Philippines together with Jerrold Tarog’s ANG KABALIGTARAN NG GUNAW.
