THE VIRGIN LABFEST VI
Untried, Untested, Unstaged Plays
A festival of new, unpublished, unstaged works by Philippine playwrights.

This is the sixth year of the Virgin Labfest. The project showcases a harvest of new plays. The project will be a two weekend run of new plays.
On its 6th year, the project is an annual joint partnership of the Writer’s Bloc, Tanghalang Pilipino and the Cultural Center of the Philippines. It aims to showcase a crop of new short/one act plays in full productions. In addition, there will be staged readings of full length works and Fragments site-specific excerpts of new works. While many of these playwrights are young and have provided new voices in Philippine theater, some of the participants are seasoned and veteran playwrights and dramatists who have written new works heretofore unpublished or unstaged.  Furthermore, the 6th Virgin Labfest has opened its doors to other entries from key regions in the country, as well as several countries abroad. The project hopes to stage their works with the aim of establishing new paths in the field.
The Virgin Labfest seeks to explore new directions in contemporary Philippine Theater.  The program’s avid encouragement to develop new and exciting, sometimes risky ideas and concepts into full productions is becoming its identifying mark in the Philippine Theater calendar.

Andrew Lloyd Webber’s “CATS: NOW AND FOREVER”
(Lunchbox Theatrical Productions, David Atkins Enterprises, Concertus and All Youth Channels in association with The Really Useful Company Asia Pacific.)
CATS boasts an international entourage of 53 people including cast, crew and a live band which plays offstage throughout the two and a half hour performance.
A unique and inspirational musical. Is based on the book of poems Old Possums Book of Practical CATS, written by T. S. Eliot and first published in 1939. With a little adaptation, Andrew Lloyd Webber used Eliot’s poems as Iyrics and set them to music to create the musical. The inclusion of elements from Eliot’s other unpublished writings brought to life the glamour cat Grizabella, who provided the pivotal storyline for the musical.
CATS tells the imaginative tale of a tribe of Jellicle CATS as they gather together for the annual Jellicle Ball, and one by one tell their stories for the entertainment of Old Deuteronomy who must choose one of the CATS to journey to the Heavyside Layer to be ‘reborn’ into a new life.
