THEATER OPERATIONS

Anything and everything that has something to do with staging productions from beginning to end is the domain of the CCP Theater Operations Department (TOD). It performs a critical role as one of the institution's major assets, being responsible for the coordination and extension of professional production services to the projects of both the CCP's resident companies and client productions as well as overseeing the care, maintenance, development and marketing of all the CCP Theaters.
The TOD boasts of an impressive history. Teodoro Ledesma Hilado, one of the country's foremost technical directors and light designer for theater, began a proud tradition of Filipino professional Technical Theater when he lit Dularawan, the inaugural presentation of the CCP's Main Theater, Onyx Wolf, the inaugural presentation of the CCP's Little Theater and Kasaysayan ng Lahi, the initial presentation of the Folk Arts Theater. Through Hilado's pioneering efforts, the art of Technical Theater in the Philippines became recognized as a distinct discipline as well as a legitimate facet of professional theater. His pioneering efforts were followed by the creatively rich tenure of the tandem of Monino Duque and Katsch Catoy, two of the country's foremost lighting designers. During his watch, Duque institutionalized standard operating procedures creating a benchmark for Filipino theater management. He also pioneered the country's first and only professional ushering services, developing it into one of world-class caliber. Various training and education programs were also initiated, giving birth to a whole new generation of technical theater practitioners. He also broadened the scope of theater management, laying the foundations for festival management a strength still evident today in the many festivals the institution has organized and implemented. Duque tended and cultivated a dynamic period for technical theater. The succeeding years after Duque's retirement ushered in the new generation of technical theater practitioners – from the many talents of Dennis Marasigan and the technical acumen of Danny Reinoso to the current watch of Ariel Yonzon.
Today, the TOD stands ready to serve the Filipino and the world. As exemplified by the TOD logo, their job is clear. By using a graphic representation of the proscenium, the logo embodies the TOD's mandate to provide a safe, efficient, effective and responsive standard system of theater production. The frame represents the four major divisions of the TOD, each playing a different yet equally valuable role: that of providing the best theater production services in the country.
