After a period of more than 20 years, a solo harp concert by a Filipino harpist will take place. Jane Banta finished her Master of Music degree in Harp Performance in 2017 after a two-year program at the State University of New York as a recipient of the Len and Carole Faulk Scholarship. She actively performs as a harpist for symphony orchestras, chamber orchestras and wind and other ensembles. She is most seen regularly playing the harp as a program musician of the PPO.  Be part Jane’s solo concert at the CCP!

The SPECIAL CONCERT SERIES features outstanding young Filipino artists in solo concerts. It highlights local and international prize winners in vocal and instrumental music and artists with performing careers abroad. The program seeks to get the general public and the youth to watch and appreciate classical music and be exposed to dynamic young Filipino artists who are making a mark on the classical music scene. Celebrate Filipino talent in the Special Concert Series!

Madeline Jane Banta   earned her Master of Music degree, major in Harp Performance in 2017 at the State University of New York after a two-year program as a recipient of the Len and Carole Faulk Scholarship.

She started harp lessons in Manila with Vienna-trained harpist Lourdes de Leon-Gregorio, already armed with a Bachelor of Music degree, major in Piano Performance (magna cum laude) from St. Scholastica's College, and a Bachelor in Arts major in Social Sciences degree from the Ateneo de Manila University.  The year after she started harp lessons, she was already invited to play in the Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra's (PPO) season concert as part of the orchestra, alongside her teacher.  Since then, she has regularly been playing the harp as a program musician of the PPO and the Manila Symphony Orchestra.  She also played harp with the UST Symphony Orchestra, the Manila Philharmonic Orchestra, and Grupo 20/21 as well as in concerts in Union Church Manila and University of the Philippines' Abelardo Hall, and in Philamlife with the Las Piñas Boys' Choir.

While earning her harp degree in the United States,   she was also Graduate Assistant for Piano from 2016-2017, frequently collaborating with Music majors in performances, exams and graduation recitals, and playing with the Wind Symphony.

As a pianist, she played as soloist with the Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra in 2003, as part of its conductor's search. Aside from being active as piano instructor and collaborative pianist, she also works in the world of musical theatre. She has played the keyboard for the major theater companies in Manila:  Repertory Philippines, NineWorks Productions, Resorts World, Upstart Productions, Atlantis, and Concertus.  Shows include the Manila run of Wicked, Spamalot, Rent, The King and I, Scrooge, The Sound of Music, Kaos, Cinderella, La Cage Aux Folles, The Fantasticks, Shrek, The Producers, A Christmas Carol and the rerun of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.

Jane’s solo concert for the Special Concert Series 2018 is the first solo harp concert given by a Filipino harpist after a respite of more than 20 years.
